BDO
Painter started playing darts around the age of 17. After the Essex county player, his first appearance on television was at the 1994 BDO World Championship, renowned as the first BDO World Championship to follow the split in the dart, where 16 players formed the World Darts Council (later Professional Darts Corporation ) and their own world championships. The painter was defeated in the first round 3-2 by Kevin Kenny. During that year (1994) he also appeared on TV Bullmeye and won Bronze Bully pro for the year with a score of 380 (doubled to Ã, à £ 760 for charity). He reached the second round of the 1995 championship before falling 3-0 to Martin Adams, but success followed later in 1995 with a win at the inaugural British Open and in 1997 he won the prestigious British Open. Two more appearances in the second round of the BDO World Championships followed and in the 2000 championship he reached his first quarterfinals on television but lost 5-2 to last champion Ted Hankey.
The new millennium marks more success for the Painter with a win at the Swedish Open. Just a month earlier he made his debut in the PDC - World Grand Prix event in 2000 where he reached the second round, but was beaten 3-2 by Taylor. But Painter does not become a member of the Dart Professional Players Association, an organization that allows players to play in all PDC events, and therefore remains a BDO player. In what will be his last appearance on the show, Painter once again reached the quarterfinals at the 2001 BDO World Championships before losing 5-2 to Andy Fordham. Painter entered another PDC event, World Matchplay 2001, but lost in the first round before returning again at the 2001 World Grand Prix, where in big surprise he beat Taylor in the first round. Taylor has never been defeated in this event and has not been lost on television for two years before this loss. It was also the first time Taylor was defeated in the first round of the televised PDC show. The painter reached the quarter-finals before losing 6-1 to Dennis Smith. Back at BDO he made his best performance at the 2001 Winmau World Masters, reaching the quarter-finals and repeating it by placing it at the 2001 Zuiderduin Masters, in what was his last event at BDO.
PDC
2001-2004: Initial success
The painter made his debut at the PDC World Championship in the 2002 event but lost in the first round to Ronnie Baxter. Despite his victory in the 2002 Bob Anderson Classic, he failed to make any real progress in the televised PDC show until he reached his first world championship at the PDC World Championship 2003, where he lost 6-4 to the eventual champion John Part.
Painter's best hour came at the 2004 World Championships. As the 10th seed, he started his campaign by beating Paul Williams before he beat 7th seed Baxter in the fourth round. He then defeated Mark Dudbridge before the whitewash of former world champion Bob Anderson followed later in the semi-finals. The painter then meets top seed Taylor in the final. What followed was the longest dart match ever aired on TV and for the time being the most watched PDC game (820,000 viewers) until the end of 2007. Although Painter led 4-1 at one point, the match reached 6-6 sets and 5 -5 in the leg in the final set, so sudden-death is needed to determine the winner. Taylor won it and became champion, but Painter, who had three out-darts to win the championship in 2-1 and 3-2 in the final set, gained fame for his participation in an epic end.
The following year was a strong year for Painter where he reached the quarter-finals at the British Open and the semi-finals at the Las Vegas Desert Classic, his best performance in this tournament to date. He reached the quarterfinals of the Las Vegas Desert Classic 2005 and the 2005 World Championships despite falling victim to a leg injury that damaged his form and kept him out of many tournaments.
2006-2007: Reject
Painter's form fell substantially in 2006. Despite opening strong with victory in the North West UK Open final and his second successive appearance in the quarter-finals of the 2006 World Championships, his form began to stagnate around mid-year. Painter suffered defeat in the first half or early in most major tournaments and his ranking dropped to 18 at the start of 2007. This was compounded by the World Cup first-round defeat that year with his former colleague Colin Osborne.
The first half of 2007 saw an early round defeat in the continuing television majors, although many of them were Taylor and then World Champion Raymond van Barneveld. The painter suffered another first round loss at the 2007 World Grand Prix, but this proved to be a turning point. Sky Sports intellectual and friend Rod Harrington warned that Painter could "slip into anonymity" if he did not recover his form. The painter attributes "the perception that he has finished" with renewed determination and subsequent enhancement.
2007-2010: Awakening
November 2007 saw a strong comeback to form Painter, where he reached the first Grand Slam of Darts quarter-finals despite being included as a wild card. The 2008 World Championships proved to be a monumental success for Painter, where he was responsible for getting rid of defending champion Raymond van Barneveld in the last 16. The painter was eliminated in the semifinals by the eventual champion, Part, his best performance since he was runner-up in 2004. The painter considers victory over van Barneveld as the greatest of his career.
The results of the painter in the television department in 2008 were not as expected of the World Championships - he was once again defeated by Osborne in the third round of the British Open and lost in the first round of the Las Vegas Desert Classic against the eventual champion Taylor. The average painter 104 (the third highest average of the tournament) and did not miss twice in the game, but still lost 6-4. His poor record at World Matchplay continued as he suffered a first-half defeat in 2008 for Tony Eccles. He lost in a decisive leg for Colin Lloyd in the second round of the World Grand Prix (having missed three darts to win the game) and finished the bottom of his group at the 2008 Grand Slam of Darts. However, his success in the televised event was not much improved, in the final of the Bristol Player Championship - 3-2 defeat of Dennis Priestley. This is his first PDC final since September 2006.
Painter entered the 2009 PDC World Championship as number seventeen. He defeated Matt Clark in the first half, winning on the sudden dead leg to become the first seeded player to advance to the second round, where he defeated Carlos RodrÃÆ'guez. However, in the third round he lost 4-1 to defending champion Taylor. In the final of the Player Championship in late January, Painter looked to be heading the first half out as he went 5-2 to Alex Roy, but he won four successive legs to advance to the second round, where he met both seeds of James Wade. This match also goes to the deciding foot; The painter missed one arrow at Bullseye and Wade took the opportunity to go through the Painter fee. However, this performance saw Painter rebuild his place in the top 16, and his fine performances on floor events from 2008 continued - he reached two semifinals at the PDC Pro Tour, especially in Gladbeck, Germany, where on March 1 he led Taylor 5-4 before losing 6-5.
In June 2009, Painter reached the semi-finals of the British Open, his best performance in the tournament. After sending Dennis Priestley 9-3 and Alan Tabern 10-8, Painter eventually lost 10-7 to Colin Osborne. His World Matchplay misfortune continued with a 13-3 defeat of Taylor in the second half of the 2009 event, though he reached the quarter-finals of the World Grand Prix and Grand Slam of Darts, in the second round topping the 'death group' That included Raymond van Barneveld and John Part. Another third round exit followed at the 2010 World Championships, 4-1 for the current Barneveld van.
Painter's first appearance on television in 2010 was the third round defeat at the British Open, where he was at the end of a 9-0 whitewash by Taylor, who set a current world record record at 118.66. But success is to follow World Matchplay 2010; After making an incredible comeback to come from 8-2 down against Essex rivals Colin Lloyd 11-9 in the first half, he defeated Mark Walsh 14-12 to reach the World Matchplay quarter-finals at the tenth time of asking. But again, his enduring rivals brought his run to the end in the semi-finals.
2011-present: The first great victory
Initially Painter suffered indifferently 2011. At the PDC World Championship 2011, he was well defeated in the first half by Brendan Dolan. In the 2011 World Match, Painter revealed that he had received laser eye surgery before the tournament to improve his game, he also stated that he had reached nine darts after 10 minutes of training with his improved eyesight. However, on the opening night of the tournament, he led world champion Adrian Lewis for most of the game, but lost six doubles that would have him winning the match, and then lost by 14 feet to 12.
In the Final of the Players Championships in December 2011, Painter defeated Colin Osborne, Gary Anderson, Mervyn King and Scott Rand to reach his first major final since the World Championships in 2004. Victory against Rand saw him recover from 9-6 down at best-of-19 leg match and survive two darts matches in the seventeenth leg. The painter then defeated Mark Webster 13-9 in the final to win his first major tournament on television. This victory returned him to the top 10 in the PDC Order of Merit for the first time since 2006. At the PDC World Championship 2012, Painter defeated Arron Monk and Mark Walsh before losing once again to John Part with four sets to two.
The Champions League Player's winner saw him get a PDC wildcard into the Premier League Dart for the first time. He won his first game with an 8-6 win over Gary Anderson, though averaging 82.67. The painter also had wins over Simon Whitlock, Andy Hamilton, and Adrian Lewis, but finished 7th in 8 men's league. At World Matchplay, Painter suffered a 6-10 defeat of Steve Beaton in the first round. In October, Painter beat Kim Huybrechts 2-0 in the set in the first round of the World Grand Prix without taking his opponent one leg, but then lost to Justin Pipe 2-3 in the last 16. The painter won two of the three Group C Games at the Grand Slam of Darts to take second place in the standings and qualify for the knockout stage, where he faces Mervyn King. From 2-2, the painter jumped away by taking five straight legs and closing the 10-5 game, but then lost 30 of his 42 attempts in a double in the quarter-final against Dean Winstanley as he lost 12-16. The painter finished 30th on ProTour Order of Merit, only within the top 32 qualified for the Players Championship Finals. He started defending his 2011 title with a first-round meeting against Michael van Gerwen, who has won eight tournaments this year, and lost 3-6.
At the 2013 World Championships, Painter lost in the last 16 of Adrian Lewis 4-2. He produced a remarkable fightback from 7-3 in the fourth round of the British Open to beat Gary Anderson 9-7. On 5-0 to Adrian Lewis in the next round, Painter threatened another remarkable comeback because at one point he trailed only 4-6, but he would eventually lose 9-4. He was eliminated in the second round of the European Championships, World Matchplay and the World Grand Prix. In October, Painter made it to the final of his first PDC rankings since a massive success almost two years ago in the 12th Player Championship of the season. From the round of 16 and beyond he beat Robert Thornton, Wes Newton and Michael Smith, but whitewashed 6-0 by Kim Huybrechts in the final.
The painter advanced to the third round of the 2014 World Championship without dropping a set but then hit just 19% of his double against Simon Whitlock to lose 4-0. In the British Open he enjoyed a comfortable victory over Richie Burnett, Andrew Gilding and Dean Winstanley and leading Mervyn King 2-0 in the early stages of their quarter-final, before his form went down to lose 10-6. The second big quarter-final this year came at the World Grand Prix which he achieved by returning from 2-0 down set against Adrian Lewis to a 3-2 win. He came back down 2-0 this time against Gary Anderson, but got up to pull a set back and then took the finish 152 with Anderson waiting on 36 for the match to level up at 2-2. However, Painter will miss the deciding set to fail to reach his first semi-final at the event, this is his fifth to eight defeat.
The painter built a 3-1 lead over Spanish qualifier Cristo Reyes in the second round of the 2015 World Championship, but lost three sets in a row without getting the darts to be eliminated 4-3. He suffered a chalk 9-0 for Andrew Gilding in the third round of the British Open. The painter missed playing at World Matchplay this year since he switched to PDC in 2001. He failed to qualify for the remainder of the majors on the PDC calendar in 2015, but remains in the top 32 on the Order of Merit to play in the 2016 World Championships.
In the second round of the 2016 World Championships, Painter missed four darts to lead Phil Taylor 2-1 and continued to be beaten 4-1. 2016 proved to be the first year since Painter's turn to PDC so he did not reach the quarter-finals of every event. Painter came out of the top 32 in the world rankings throughout the year and qualified for two other major events, the British Open (losing 6-4 from Dean Winstanley in the second round) and the Players Championship Finals (losing 6-4 to Dave Chisnall in the first round).
The painter qualified for the 2017 World Championship through Pro Tour Order of Merit when Kyle Anderson was forced to withdraw from the event because he could not get a UK Visa. He won the last six legs of his first round meeting with Jamie Caven to beat him 3-1. He missed a number of doubles in a second-round match with Phil Taylor, including three to win the third set, and beaten 4-0.

Outside of the arrow
The painter lives in Rugby, Warwickshire. She previously lived with her long-term partner, Janine Gough, and their daughter, Madison Elise Painter (born 2005), until her breakup from Gough in 2016. Gough is herself a former dartsman from Swansea, and she won the Girls' Masters World in 1999 and 2000. Kevin Painter was a builder before becoming a professional. He spent his training session with Matthew Edgar, a rising PDC dice player. He is also a season ticket and shareholder of Ipswich Town. He often plays wearing a blue shirt referring to his favorite team.
In 2012, Painter, along with seven other players competing in the Premier League, recorded a charity single with Chas Hodges and his band entitled 'Got My Ticket To Dart' written by Chas. It was released on May 18, the night after the play-off at O2 in London, where it aired. The proceeds from the single will be donated to the Haven House Children's HOUSE.
Painter has also been featured in various darts videogames, including PDC World Championship Darts 2008 , 2009 and PDC World Championship Darts Pro Tour .
Controversy
The painter may also be famous for his famous rivalry with Taylor. Perhaps stemming from his stunning triumph over Taylor at the 2001 World Grand Prix, and the 2004 World Championship final, he has had plenty of experience with Taylor. In the quarterfinals of the 2005 World Championships against Taylor, Painter often tried to check by hitting Bullseye, but failed many times. Taylor won the last game by deliberately leaving 50, then checking the bull, which Painter did as a mockery and arguing cruelly with Taylor for a few minutes after the game.
In April 2008, Painter was involved in another incident at the Holland Masters, a tournament that was not broadcast on television. In the quarter-final match with Taylor's governor, Adrian Lewis, the quarrel between the two took place in the deciding set. They were both disqualified from the tournament. In July, the Darts Regulatory Authority decided on appropriate penalties; The painter was fined Ã, à £ 200 and banned for three months with two months suspended while Lewis was fined Ã, à £ 400 with a six-month ban, four months suspended.
World Championships results
While the quarter-finals are the furthest stage that Painter achieved at the BDO World Darts Championship, his record at the PDC World Darts Championship was far more impressive, having reached the quarter-finals twice (2005, 2006), semi-finals twice (2003, 2008), and he was runner -up in 2004.
