Modus operandi

The killer uses blue house paint for the fence on the fictional campus of Western Las Vegas University; He chose the fence because they were near the fountain. Motor oil is mixed into the paint to slow down the drying process. She waited for the female victim to touch the fence and then, with the victim trying to wash the paint from her hand in the fountain, she attacked her, tied up and silenced her, bundled her into the van and away from the site. He then stopped the van outside the erotic boutiques and sketches while the victim pleaded for mercy. She pulls him as he sits in the driver's seat looking at him through the rearview mirror as he fights behind. He then sexually assaulted him before strangling him to death. After he killed his victim, he dumped it, in a black garbage bag, around Las Vegas and sold sketches to the boutique owner.

Exception for M.O. is Jonathan Avery Haywood III, killed in "What Wants Gilbert Grissom?". Like the wrong Haywood for Kaitlin Rackish, the killer does not attack or sketch and throw his body by putting it in a wooden chipper on campus.

Suspect

John Mathers

John Mathers was a security guard working at WLVU in 1987, when the killing began. He was arrested and punished in 1988 after one of his hair was found on Charlene Roth's body. He remained in Death Row for 15 years, until he was executed for the murder of Charlene Roth ("The Execution of Catherine Willows"). However, another victim (Debbie Reston) was found on the day of the execution. Believing the Mathers to be a true imitator of killers, CSI is trying to find the real culprit; due to lack of evidence, his case became cold.

Following another couple in "What Wants Gilbert Grissom?", It happened that Mathers and Greer were partners. They are obviously quite close, with Greer referring to his partner as "JM", although he also says that the arrest and execution is "the price you pay for being incompetent". It is thought that Mathers was then posthumously pardoned for the murder of Charlene Roth, since Gil Grissom determined that Kevin Greer was the "alpha male" of two couples, and Mathers only attacked the first three victims, though he was not punished for the murders of Janet Kent and Marcia Reese.

Cody Lewis

Lewis (David Lee Smith) is an art professor at WLVU dating the first victim, Janet Kent, and teaching art to Kaitlin Rackish and several other victims. He was originally in a frame for the 1987-88 assassination but was later released from the same DNA evidence that condemned John Mathers. Kevin Greer worked at the WLVU press campus from 1983 to 2004, and was the only press employee who had worked there for more than 10 years when he was caught. He also has an explicit comic book writing job for the sex shop, under the pseudonym Zippy T. He committed the first murder at the age of 16 before the "Execution of Catherine Willows", estimated from the event's chronology in 1987. In 1988, John Mathers was arrested and sentenced to death for 15 years; At that moment Greer stopped his murder, so Mathers would die and be blamed for his grave. On the day of Mathers's execution, Greer kills his fourth victim, Debbie Reston. Although he intended to kill one victim every year that day, he did not do so in 2003 because an unsuccessful LASIK operation had ruined his vision for a while (he chose to undergo surgery because Debbie Reston broke his glasses in the struggle). The following year, however, he killed Jonathan Haywood, mistaking him for Kaitlin Rackish's target because Haywood had long hair and bad eyesight. LASIK dark night Greer made him mistook Haywood as a woman. He then tracks Kaitlin down and kills him, but evidence that he left at the scene (copy toner from the WLVU press) leads to his capture.

After SWAT stormed his home, Greer left a phone message saying that he would wait for Grissom at the police station. When Grissom and Brass arrive, Greer greets them as "Gil" and "Jim", and taunts them about their search. Greer then promised to lead the officers to the location of the sixth victim, Brit Mosscoe. However, this is a ruse (Brit Mosscoe is an anagram of "Miss October", from a calendar that hangs in Greer's garage). She asks to go to the bathroom before she leaves, and even though an officer escorted her into the facility, she went unattended to the booth. After Sara Sidle calls Catherine to tell the others about the scam, Grissom and Brass barge into the cubicle and find Greer with a black plastic bag tied around his head. They tear the bag and try CPR, but Greer is dead.

Returning to the interrogation room, Grissom finds an image that, when folded, reveals the Grissom image and the word "goodbye".
