Band ductus occlusion therapy (DTOT) is a method of treating warts by covering them with tape for long periods.
The manner in which the tape appears to work is not clear. The tape may create a macerated and keratolytic environment, stimulating the immune response. The type of adhesive in the duct tape may also be important. Side effects are rare, although skin irritation may occur.
There is ample evidence that occlusive treatment with different types of tape is effective. Clinical trials in 2012 concluded that no statistically significant difference between the obvious hymen and placebo could be determined in the sample. On the health information website, tape is referred to as a treatment with evidence of mixed efficacy, no good evidence or described as alternative medicine.

In 1978, Jerome Z Litt was the first to show that the adhesive tape could be used to treat warts on the fingers. He claims: "My method is safe, easy, simple, painless, inexpensive, and very effective • Does not leave scars or nails defective • The fixed mystery: How and why does this method work? I can not give a plausible or logical explanation It can not all be 'hypnotic' or 'suggestive'.Could it be that the airtight occlusion and chemical reactions formed by the adhesive on the tape might combine to release a chemical or 'poison' that causes the formation of antibodies? A 2002 study involved 51 individuals (ages 3-22) treated with "standard tape" (not specified in the study) or cryotherapy. A piece of masking tape is cut as close as possible to the size of the wart, and applied to the area. The tape is left for 6 days and replaced with new tape if it falls. After 6 days, the tape was removed, the area was soaked in water, and the wart was slashed with an emery board or pumice stone. The tape was abandoned overnight and reapplied the next morning. This process continues for up to 2 months or until the warts are resolved, whichever occurs first. Progress is monitored every 4 weeks. The researchers found that duct tape was significantly more effective than cryotherapy (P = 0.05) with 85% in the tidy treatment group that had complete resolution of their warts, compared with 60% in the cryotherapy group. The study was criticized for the lack of a placebo control group, and due to a number of assessment results performed by the phone. Nor is there any long-term follow-up reported to ensure there is no wart recurrence.
Two studies subsequently failed to repeat the results of a 2002 study. One tape compared to moleskin found no statistically significant differences in reported results between the two groups. The others use clear 3M tape, again concluding there is no statistically significant effect on the resolution of the warts. The statistical strength of recent trials has been questioned, and has suggested that duct tape occlusion therapy only works with rubber-based adhesives, while the study uses acrylic-based adhesives.
