The Ford SVT Mustang Cobra (also known as SVT Mustang Cobra, SVT Cobra, or just as Cobra ) is a car/car pony car model that built in models from 1993 to 2004 by the Ford Motor Company division Special Vehicle Team (or SVT, for the short term). The SVT Cobra is a high-performance version of the Ford Mustang, considered to be top-of-the-line as it is positioned on top of the Mustang GT and Mach 1 models during the production era. On three occasions, race-ready varieties, legal avenue SVT Cobra R are produced in limited quantities. The SVT Cobra was replaced by the Shelby GT500 2007. Although the GT500 was built by SVT and wears the Cobra emblem, it is not considered a SVT Cobra, since the car was licensed by Shelby and has no "Cobra" in the model name or description.

1993

The 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra was launched at the 1992 Chicago auto show. It is the new Ford SVT division's flagship vehicle designed to showcase the four distinctive features of Performance, Substance, Exclusivity and SVT Value. The outside of the 1993 Cobra SVT does not represent a radical departure from the GT model this year: However, there are subtle differences, as described below.

The actual redesign and updating takes place under the bodywork: the powertrain is driven by a 302 CID V8 (5.0L) motor, producing 235 hp (175 kW) and 280 ft (4.4 lb) of torque. By Street & amp; Track, this can send Cobra through 1/4 mile in 14.5 seconds at a trap speed of 98 mph (158 km/h). Acceleration from zero to 60 mph (97 km/h) takes 5.9 seconds. Drivetrain receives an enhanced transmission, rear disc brakes, and for the first time in the Mustang factory, the 17 "wheels in the direction of the suspension are not ignored either: The Cobra model accepts a lighter and more suitable ride compared to the GT model achieved with springs and swaying bars special model.

Engine

The 1993 Cobra SVT short blocks (cylinder blocks, crankshaft, rods, and pistons) were brought from the GT model. For this, Ford SVT engineers added the following performance items:

  • Cylinder Heads - Cast Iron-40 "High Flow" Cast Head mounted. They are milled to 62.5 cc of combustion chamber. The valve measures the intake of 1.84 "(46.7 mm), and 1.54" (39.1 mm) exhaust. The valves are driven by Cobra-specific 1.7 roller rocker ratio, made of aluminum and manufactured for Ford by Crane Cams. Part Number: valves), and F3ZE-6529-AB (rocker).
  • Intake Manifold - The top cobra manifold is unique to Cobra 1993 and has a 2.75 "(70.0mm) diameter round throttle body opening, diverting air to (8) round staggered ports, respectively 1.64" (41.7 mm) in diameter. The lower manifold is identical to the GT-40 manifold used by Ford Racing; it directs the airflow to the configuration of the rectangular port required by the cylinder head. Part Number: F3ZZ-9424-C (top type) and F3ZZ-9424-D (lower).
  • Camshaft - Cam is a hydraulic roller type (same as GT). However, the Cobra cam has a unique specification of 0.479 "/0.479" (12.2 mm/12.2 mm) intake/exhaust lift, (209Ã, Â °/209Ã, Â °) duration at 0.050 "(1.27 mm) , and lobe separation from 118.3 Â °, Part Number: F3ZE-6250-CA.
  • Air/Fuel Delivery - Increased airflow and fuel consumption from Cobra requires this enhanced component: Larger (compared to GT) 24 Ã, Â £/hr fuel injector, 2.75 "(70.0 mm ) MAF meter, 2.56 "(65.0 mm) throttle body, and EGR plate that is suitable to handle motor breathing improvement. EEC-IV engine-specific calibrated control unit runs the system. Part Number: F1TZ-9F593-C (injector), FIZF-12B579-AA (meters), and F3ZF-12A650-CA (ECU ).
  • Accessories - Crankshaft pulley diameter decreased by 14% (compared to GT) to reduce alternator, A/C, and smog pump, all to increase power. The water pump pulley also decreases in diameter by the same amount to maintain the pump speed ratio, and thus the coolant flow. This smaller accessory pulley requires a shorter serpentine belt. Section Number: F3ZZ-6A312-A (crank pulley), F3ZZ-8509-A (water pump pulley), and F3ZZ-8620-A (belt).
  • Exhaust - To extract the maximum amount of power from the Cobra powerplant, Ford engineers use a tuned muffler with lower limitations (compared to GT). While the factory headers and H-pipe remain the same, the tailpipes are similar to Mustang LX 5.0L (Sport) models because they have straight stainless steel tips (not turn-down tips on GT). This is because Cobra has a revised rear fascia, allowing (unlike GT) for an open dual exhaust. Section Number: F3ZZ-5230-A, stamped F3ZC-5230-CC (RH exhaust) and F3ZZ-5230-A, stamped > F3ZC-5232-DC (LH muffler).

Drivetrain

With an increase in engine output from the Mustang SVT Cobra, the Borg-Warner T-5 World Class transmission requires an internal upgrade, allowing it to produce higher torque capacity compared to World Class T-5 standards. This upgrade consists of custom gearing 1-3 (which is reduced by 10% and hardened), 4/5th gear (just hardened) the same as the standard T-5 found on LX/GTs. Cobra coupling holding capacity is enhanced with a higher pressure clamp plate plate using the same 10-inch diameter as GT/LX.

Suspend

  • Shock/Struts - Cobra shifts the production of shocks and struts to the Tokico aftermarket manufacturer. The components used are specially valved for new cars. Part Number: F3ZZ-18124-A (front struts) and F3ZZ-18125-A (rear shocks).
  • Extra Styling

Cobra features a finer styling than the GT.

    Paint and Interior Trim

Cobra 1993 is available in four exterior paint options, as shown in the table below. The interior color choices are Opal Gray fabric, black cloth, and Opal Gray leather.

    Describe VIN Code

In the table below, machine code (in bold ) is the only unique code that distinguishes SVT Cobra from other Mustangs for the 1993 model year. Note that SVT Cobra and Mustang GT hatchback share the same code for body style/model number. Also, Cobra street-spec and Cobra R are ready to share the same code for body style, model number, and engine.

1993 Price of SVT Cobra Base

    1993 Cobra R

Cobra R 1993 is the first of three Cobra R models produced, and it is a very exclusive vehicle. Since the title "R" in its name is "Racing", it has no radio, speakers, cables and antennas, air conditioning, fog lamps, sound detectors, rear seats, rear seatbelts, rear carpet, and roll-cover cargo among other items. No power options; cars have power steering , roll-up windows, manual door locks, and manual-adjustable mirrors. Also, the manually adjusted Opal Gray bucket seats from the Mustang LX are lighter than the GT/Cobra sport seats, and a thin gray carpet secured by Velcro covers the bare area and back seat area. The removal of all these equipment spills about 450 pounds, but that's somewhat offset by the necessary addition of heavy-duty hardware to allow the car to handle the rigors of the competition.

To strengthen the chassis, the strut tower holder is installed to tie the cowl together, and a pair of V-braces (used on all 1983-1993 Mustang convertibles) are mounted in the X-pattern binding subframe together. Cobra R displays the Eibach springs that are a bit too rigid for the road, but perfect on the racetrack. Cobra R also benefits from unobstructed Koni shocks and struts, helping to reinforce the car's reputation as a serious propulsion engine.

The car also features a large 13 "Kelsey-Hayes vented rotor on the front and 10.5" vented rotor on the back. According to Neil W. Ressler, executive director of vehicle engineering for Ford Motor Company at the time and one of the founders of SVT, the 1993 Cobra R brake "is the most expensive brake ever attached to Mustang I bought the brake for the R model from my engineering budget I want a big brake, and we do not have it The program can not afford it Unknown to the top brass, at Ford I spend about $ 2,100 per car to buy that big brake But the last thing I want is a fast car that does not stop.We end up putting good brakes on everyone [Cobra R] vehicles. "

The same 5.0L V8 from Cobra street-spec is used in ready-made Cobra R. However, the radiator is unique to Cobra R, and the cleaning tank is installed for better cooling. The power steering cooler (located behind the left foglight frame) and the engine oil cooler are standard.

Cobra R Wheel is actually an optional 5 "x 8" wheel drive from the 1994 GT Mustang which was soon released, but they painted a black gloss with a chrome lug cover. The wheels are wrapped with Goodyear Gatorbacks, which are standard Cobra tires. To provide better front-end car geometry, lower control arms from the 1994 Mustang are installed.

Contrary to the wishes of SVT, many of the Cobra R models were purchased by private collectors and never really pushed, but some managed to compete at the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) Firestone Grand Sport Series and Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) World Challenge Class B Class. Of the three Cobra R models produced, the 1993 model has the benefit of being the lightest and the smallest.

Only 107 Cobra R models were produced, and all painted with Vibrant Red Clearcoat. According to Ford's official announcement on April 7, 1993, Cobra R was produced to bring the Fox Mustang in a big style, the "best of the last" models. According to SVT, each can be 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds and perform a top speed of 140 mph. With 1993 SVT Cobra, 1993 SVT Cobra R, and 1993 SVT F-150 Lightning combined for the new venture, Ford Special Vehicle Team seems to be a good start in producing some of the most instant Ford Fords of the moment. period.

    1994-1995: The SN-95 Windsor Cobra

    1994

Ford introduced the newly redesigned 1994 Mustang in December 1993. This was the first major redesign since the Fox-bodied Mustang bowed to 1979. Known as Fox-4 (since it was based on the Fox platform as a 1994 model), the 1994 Mustang is an improvement great over the 1993 model that came out. Riding, handling, styling, ergonomics, and standard equipment and optional new cars are all a big step forward from the previous model. As beautiful as the new 1994 Mustang, it still makes Ford fans want more power. Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 and Pontiac Firebird Formula and Trans Am, all redesigned for 1993, became standard with 275 hp (205 kW). Mustang GT 1994 engine only issued 215 hp (160 kW). Thus, the new Cobra SVT model is needed to bridge the performance gap.

Cobra 1994 was introduced in mid-year model with the same engine from Cobra in 1993. With a GT-40 cast iron head and lower intake as well as its Cobra-specific intake, the power gradually increased to 240 hp (180 kW). However, the actual output of the improved Cobra GT-40 engine may be higher. Ford claims a modest 6.3 seconds to hit 60 mph and a top speed of 140 mph. Mustang Muscles & amp; Fast Fords magazine tested Cobra's 1994 coupe and ran 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds and a quarter mile in 13.87 seconds at 99.49 mph.

Initially, 1994 SVT Cobra was only available as a coupe, but the first manufactured SVT Cobra convertible was the 1994 Indy 500 Pace Car Replica. On the same day when the new Cobra 1994 coupe was launched, SVT announced that it would build a Cobra convertible (convertible Cobra manufactured first plant since the 1970 Shelby model) and the new convertible had been selected to spur the 1994 Indianapolis 500 (see next section). New Cobra Conversion, or Indy 500 Pace Car Replica, available later in the 1994 model.

    SVT Cobra versus Mustang GT

If 1993 Cobra and Cobra R laid the foundation for super performance, then Cobra 1994 began the tradition of offering refinement and subtle touches that made the car stand apart from the lower Mustang brothers. Each year the next model, performance characteristics, substance, exclusivity, and SVT values are met and exceeded, and Cobra 1994 initiates a pattern of raising the bar above each previous model year.

According to a book written by Jim Campisano Powered by SVT: Celebrating the Performance Decade of Ford, Below is a list of items governing 1994 SVT Cobra apart from the run-of-the-mill 1994 Mustang GT:

    Body Components and Appearance

    • Unique front fascia with round fog light (versus rectangle on GT).
    • Unique complex reflector light (Cobra only).
    • Chrome Cobra Badge on front fender (compared to GT emblem).
    • Unique rear spoiler with integrated LED stop (versus non-LED stop lamp integrated into decklid on GT).
    • 160-mph speedometer, white-faced instrument gauge, and black letters (compared to 150-mph speedometer, black-faced gauge, and white letter in GT).
    • Shift, boot and leather parking brake (Cobra only).
    • Magnum front seat cushion (Cobra only).
    • Cobra floor carpet is unique.

    Machines and Chassis

    • GT-40-style 5.0L Cobra V8 engine (versus High Output 5.0L V8 on GT).
    • 13 "ventilated disc brakes, 11.65" rear discs with double piston calipers, and standard ABS front brakes (versus 10,8 ", 10.5" rear discs with single piston calipers, and an optional ABS on the GT ).
    • Unique 17 "x 8" aluminum wheels.
    • Standard Goodyear GS-C Tire P255/45ZR17 (compared to Goodyear Eagle P225/55ZR16 standard on GT, optional P245/45ZR17 on GT).
    • Unique chassis settings.

    Cat and Interior Trim

Cobra 1994 is available in three exterior paint colors, as shown in the table below. The choice of interior color is Black cloth, Saddle cloth, Black leather, and Saddle leather. In the 1994 Cobra convertible (see next section on the 1994 Indy 500 Pace Car Replica), the vinyl top is only available in the saddle, and the top of this convertible is the same as that used on the regular Mustang convertible.

NOTE: In the table below, paint colors marked with an asterisk (*) are non-clearcoat paints.

    Interpreting the VIN Code

In the table below, the machine code (in bold ) is the only unique code that distinguishes SVT Cobra from other Mustangs for the 1994 model. Note that SVT Cobra and Mustang GT share the same code for the number body style/model.

1994 Indy 500 Pace Car Replica

Ford Mustang was 30 years old in 1994 and met with company-sponsored enthusiasm. As a demonstration of this new enthusiasm, the SVT Cobra convertibles trio served as the driving force for the 78th Indianapolis to-500 race on 29 May 1994. The three cars were modified by Jack Roush at his shop in Allen Park, Michigan, for pacing on the day race. Car speed is fitted with a four-speed heavy duty automatic transmission, 15 gallon racing fuel cell, heavier rear springs (to accommodate the weight of television camera equipment), Halon fire extinguish system, rollbar with 50,000 watt built-in strobe lights, and special lights on rear spoiler. Parnelli Jones, a seven-time Indy 500 rival who won the 1963 race, drove an official race car at the event.

To commemorate the special occasion, SVT produces 1,000 Replicas of Indies 500 Pace Cars for the buyer community. All 1,000 cars are painted Rio Red and are equipped with Saddle leather interior and the top of a suitable Saddle vinyl. This special edition has an Indy 500 winged tire logo emblazoned as a cloisonnÃÆ' Â © chrome badge in declid and embroidered on the front back. A set of "Official Car Pace" stickers comes with each Cobra special edition. These stickers are not installed in the factory; Instead, they are delivered into the trunk and submitted to buyer's discretion to install it. There is one small difference between the decals being imposed by three official speed cars and their replica decals. The tire logo on the official sticker is white, and on the replica decals, the color is gray.

1994 SVT Mustang Cobra only the third Ford Mustang was selected for official car duty speed at the Indianapolis 500 race. The other two Mustangs serving as the official Indy 500 speed car were the first Mustang in 1964 and the newly redesigned Mustang Fox in 1979.

The 1995 Cobra is basically the rest of the 1994 model year. SVT chrome badge on a new decklid for all SVT vehicles this year. A new vertical spat is added to the leading edge of any rocker panel extension to prevent rock damage to the lower body.

Cobra Conversion back this year for limited production of 1.003 units, and all painted Black and comes with Saddle leather interior and Black convertible tops. New available for Cobra 1995 conversion is a removable hardtop option. This is a one-year option because it costs $ 1.825 and an additional weight of 90 pounds; thus, only 499 of the 1,003 convertible Cobra built this year have this option. Removing or installing a hardtop is a two-person job, and this hardtop can not easily pair another Mustang or Cobra convertible from this old model because of the mechanism attached to fiberglass and dome cables. Included with this option, a convenient carrier that is rolled on four caster allows easier hardtop storage when not in use. This hardtop option was originally supposed to be an option available for the All-new 1994 Mustang convertible, but was postponed due to supply problems and quality control issues. This hardtop option is also available on the GT Mustang GT 1995 convertible.

The biggest news for 1995 was the return of the legal and ready SVT Cobra R for the race (see next section).

    Cat and Interior Trim

Cobra 1995 is available in the same three exterior paint colors from 1994, as shown in the table below. Interior color choices are the same as in 1994: Black cloth, saddle, black leather, and saddle skin. In Cobra 1995 conversion, the top of the vinyl is only available in black, and the top of the convertible is the same as that used in the regular Mustang converters.

NOTE: In the table below, paint colors marked with an asterisk (*) are non-clearcoat paints.

All prices are below in United States dollars when new vehicles are sold at Ford dealerships before available options are added.

    1995 Cobra R

After the unexpected '93 R's success, the SVT engineers developed a stronger R model based on Cobra 1995. The top priority is addressing customer demand for larger, stronger engines and more fuel capacity. Responding to the request, SVT replaces Cobra's 5.0 L V8 with a modified version of the Ford V8 5.8-liter SVT, reengineered to produce 300 horsepower (220 kW) and install a 22 gallon fuel cell. To handle a more powerful engine torque, the Tremec 3550 5 speed manual transmission is installed. See also 5-speed T-5 manual. Again, heavy saving is targeted, so there is no rear seat, radio, window/electric chair or AC - even fog lights, which are removed to provide channels to get cold air into the front disc brakes. Progressive heavy-duty spring springs, thick stabilizer rods and buffer up front buffers help improve handling on the racetrack. Only 250 built vehicles, available only in white with saddle interior interiors, each with a unique tier-grade fiberglass hood high enough to clean the engine and induction system.

Seperti halnya '93R, hanya pemilik lisensi balap yang valid yang dapat memperoleh salah satu dari mobil-mobil ini.

    1996-1998: SN-95 Modular Cobra

    1996

For 1996, Ford finally halted an aging 5.0L V8 in the Mustang GT and SVT Cobra, replacing it with a newer, smoother 4.6L DOHC modular modular unit and had slightly better fuel economy. Beginning with the 1996 model, each Cobra machine was assembled manually by a two-man team at Ford Romeo Machinery Factory in Romeo, Michigan, a practice that continued through the rest of the SVT Cobra production. Each machine has a label (later, a metal plaque on a Cobra machine from 2003 to 2004) containing the names and signatures of two machine makers. Romeo machine, as it is called, produces 305Ã, hp (227Ã, kW) and 300Ã, lb? Ft (410Ã,® M) torque, allowing the new Cobra to go 0-60Ã, mph in 5.9 seconds and do a quarter mile in 13.99 seconds at 101.6 mph. However, Car and Driver magazine was able to reach 60 mph in 5.4 seconds and a quarter mile in 14.00 seconds at 102 mph during a comparison test in their December 1995 issue. The 1996 Cobra engine was reduced to 6,800 rpm, with fuel cessation occurring at 7,000 rpm.

The modular Ford V8 first debuted in the all-new Ford Ford Victoria 1992 as a single-overhead-cam (SOHC) setup, and then the engine actually featured its power potential with 32 valves, double overhead cams (DOHC), and 285 hp ( 213 kW) at the new Lincoln Mark VIII 1993.

Aluminum modular aluminum blocks are thrown in Italy by Textid, a company that produces spare parts for Ferrari and Formula One drivers. SVT installed Cobra 1996 with a 5-speed manual transmission Borg Warner T-45, which is also used in the Mustang GT. (It should be noted that Tremec purchased production rights for the T-45 by the end of 1998, although the unit remained unchanged in terms of strength.)

    Cat and Interior Trim

Cobra 1996 is available in four exterior paint colors, as shown in the table below. Interior color choices are the same as before: Black cloth, saddle, black leather, and saddle skin. At convertible Cobra, the upper part of the vinyl is available in black, saddle, or white, and the top of this convertible is the same used on the regular Mustang convertible.

    Understanding VIN Code

In the table below, the code in bold is unique to SVT Cobra for the 1996 model year, and these codes differentiate SVT Cobra from other Mustangs 1996.

1996 Price of SVT Cobra Base

All prices are below in United States dollars when new vehicles are sold at Ford dealerships before available options are added.

    1996 Mystic Cobra

To promote the technological advances and mechanical achievements of its new modular engine, Ford introduced the Mystic Cobra for 1996, featuring a high-tech, color-shift paint formulated by BASF. Utilizing ChromaFlair color-changing pigments from Flex Products, Mystic paint shifts from green to yellow to gold to purple depending on angle and light availability. The research and development process for this paint takes three years to complete. Available only in the Cobra coupe, the Mystic paint option cost only $ 815 at the time, and 1996 Mystic Cobra was the first production vehicle to use a color changing paintwork. Only 1,999 Mystic Cobras are manufactured, and this, 1,990 has black leather interior and nine has a black fabric interior. Because the paint continues to have special uses, the remaining amount is strictly controlled and thus requires verification of VIN through the appropriate Ford body shop to get special paint to repaint every damaged area.

The 1997 Cobra is essentially a remnant of the 1996 model. Only keen observers noticed that the honeycomb lattice from before now does not exist to allow more airflow to the larger radiators including across the Mustang lineup, and Cobra 1997 has a larger diameter fan. Also new is a parallel flow air conditioner condenser that is exclusive to SVT Cobra. The rear spoiler is now optional, as it is standard on all previous models.

    Cat and Interior Trim

The only other major change for 1997 is on the color palette. Cobra 1997 is available in four exterior colors, as shown in the table below. The interior options are the same as those offered in 1996: Black fabrics, saddlery, blacks, and saddlebags. In Cobra convertibles, the top vinyl is available in black, saddle, or white, and the top of this convertible is the same one used on ordinary Mustang convertibles.

    1998

Cobra 1998 remains unchanged from previous years. One obvious change is the wheel, which resembles the cast-aluminum unit used in Cobra R. 1995. Only this time, the wheel pieces were painted gray, and the wheels measured 17 "x 8" instead of 17 "x 9" in 1995 Cobra R. Wheels continued wrapped in the same BF Goodrich Comp T/A tire from before. Other minor changes include a redesigned console where the digital clock pod installed in the dashboard is removed, and the clock function is then integrated into the radio digital display. Also, the standard premium sound system now includes a single-disc CD player.

It is also the last year of the re-style fuel system, as replaced by the newer returnless system for 1999.

    Paint and Interior Trim

Cobra 1998 is available in five exterior colors, as shown in the table below. Chrome Yellow was added in mid-1998 on Cobra. The interior options are the same as before: Black fabric, saddle, black leather, and saddlebags. However, his skin pattern changed. In Cobra convertibles, the top vinyl is available in black, saddle, or white, and the top of this convertible is the same one used on ordinary Mustang convertibles.

    1999-2002: New Ujung Modular Cobra

    1999

For the 1999 model year, Ford revived the fourth generation of Mustangs by using Ford's "Edge

The new Cobra 1999 has a 4.6L DOHC V8 engine that is upgraded with 320 hp (239 kW) and 317 lb of torque? Ft (430Ã, N? M). However, when the new Cobras 1999 was put through their paces by their new owners, it was revealed that the 0-60 mph time was slower than the fully equipped 1998 model, and the dyno test showed that the advertised power output was close to 285Ã, hp. (213 kW), even though Ford claims that the engine is releasing 15 hp more than the Cobra engine 1998. Because of this criticism, on 6 August 1999, Ford stopped selling all 1999 unsold Cobra to many dealers and recalled all 1999 Cobra sold out. Ford replaced the intake manifolds, certain computer components, and exhaust systems from catalytic converters to tailpipes to achieve the "true" 320 hp in the crankshaft.

    Cat and Interior Trim

Cobra 1999 is available in four exterior paint colors, as shown in the table below. The interior color option is limited to two offers: Dark Charcoal and Medium Parchment. The standard leather chair is the same optional leather unit used on the 1999 Mustang GT, but without embroidered horse logos running on the front back. The cloth seats are no longer offered on Cobras, as they have never been popular with buyers in previous model years. In Cobra convertibles, the top of the vinyl is available in black, parchment, or white, and the top of this convertible is the same as that used on the regular 1999 Mustang convertible.

The new Cobra R comes standard with a 5.4L DOHC V8 engine (with 6500 rpm redline) rated at 385 hp (287 kW) and 385 lb? Ft (522Ã, N? M) torque. However, independent dyno tests have shown that Cobra R produces a rear wheel output that almost matches both numbers, suggesting the engine may have been underestimated. The cast iron blocks are based on the 5.4L blocks Ford used on his truck at the time. The cylinder head is then used in the 2005-2006 Ford GT, although slightly modified. Some sources claim that the Ford Falcon GT Australia engine is very similar to the Cobra R plant. Like the previous Cobra R models, the 2000 model is designed to be a race-ready and high-performing vehicle in the perfect street legal package; therefore, it does not have much of the comfort enjoyed by the standard Cobra. This model has no radio/audio equipment, no air conditioning, no cruise control, and no backseat. Each of the 300 units produced featured a Performance Red exterior and a Dark Charcoal interior with Recaro reclining bench.

Cobra R 2000 features several visual and performance features that distinguish it from standard Cobra 1999 or 2001. The dome power hood, for example, is higher than a standard Cobra hood, and there are gills that can be cut to help reduce engine compartment temperature. The rear spoiler is high and wide, providing much needed downforce at track speed. Cobra R is equipped with Eibach springs that lower the car 1.5 inches in front and 1.0 inches behind. The model also uses Bilstein shocks and struts, Brembo 4-piston front calipers that work on a 13-inch rotor cooled by a large channel, along with race-style fuel cells that clearly stand out beneath the rear bumper of the Mustang V6. The front fascia is decorated with a splitter that can be removed at low speed. The wheels are also uniquely styled, silver painted, five spoke, 18-inch (460 mm) x 9.5 inch (240 mm) alloy wrapped with aggressive tires BF Goodrich G-Force KD. Handmade SVT engines use special DOHC cylinder heads, "trumpet-style" intake manifolds, aggressive camshafts, short tube headers connected to Cobra catalysts, X Bassani pipes, and Exhaust Exhaust Exit exhaust systems are unique, required by large fuel cells. The model also features 3.55 gears, a Gerodisc hydro-mechanical differential with speed and torque sensitivity, and a 6-speed Tremec T-56 highly customized manual transmission for drag racing or road usage. Despite this close ratio, 2000 Cobra R also enjoys a top speed of 177 mph (282 km/h).

A number of notable aftermarket performance component makers for Mustang are involved in this project, including Recaro, Brembo, McLeod, Eibach, BF Goodrich, Tremec, Borla, Dana, Federal Mogul, and K & N (among others).

The Fast Word 2000 Cobra never existed...

Due to the 1999 Cobra performance disaster, the 2000 SVT Cobra standard was withdrawn from production, only to return in 2001 rated at actual 320 hp. The production process of 2000 SVT Cobra R (see below) goes on without any problems. Ford is still printing a brochure for Cobra 2000, with a print date of December 1999, four months after the 2000 model was officially canceled. The reason for this is because the brochure is talking about the upcoming Cobra R. 2000

According to the 2000 Cobra brochure, if 2000 Cobra has been produced, it will be available in six exterior paint colors: Crystal White Clearcoat, Ebony (Black) Clearcoat, Clear Tape Red Tinted Laser, Medium Atlantic Blue Clearcoat Metallic, Silver Clearcoat Metallic, and (most importantly ) Mystic Gold. Apparently, Mystic Gold should be available in limited quantities at the end of model year. After 1996 Mystic Cobra, 2000 Mystic Gold Cobra will be the second time color-shifted paint is used on Cobras. It is said that Mystic Gold paint has a discoloration of the orange color that burns into gold to yellow to pale green. Unfortunately, Ford made some changes to the painting process for the 2001 model, and Mystic Gold paint did not fit into the new process. Thus, the 2000 Mystic Gold Cobra never saw the light of day, but photos from the prototype that Mystic Gold painted will forever be immortalized in the Cobra brochure 2000.

Apart from paint colors, the standard 2000 SVT Cobra is pretty much the rest of the 1999 model. Even the interior should be the same as 1999. Only two color choices, Dark Charcoal and Medium Parchment, should be offered again.

    Cat and Interior Trim

Cobra R 2000 is only available in one color exterior paint, as shown in the table below. The only choice of interior color is Dark Charcoal. The standard Recaro bucket bench seat has a red "R" with Cobra logo stitched embroidered on the front rail.

    2001

While Cobra 2001 shared almost all of the same 1999 Cobra components, some changes were made including:

    • The engine block is converted from the Textid block to the Windsor Aluminum Factory (or WAP) block. The WAP block is considered weaker than the previous TextTid block. Some Cobras of 2001 receive Textid blocks either from factories or as replacement motors. In the picture on the right, note the extra ribs that are designed to strengthen the weaker WAP. Also, note that the hatch in Textid valley is square, whereas WAP has diagonal hatching.
    • The revised cylinder head. Cobra owners have reported the sound of "ticking" or "ping" coming from the head of their car driver. Due to inadequate cooling around the # 6/# 7/# 8 cylinder causing the valve to overheat and therefore inappropriately, Ford improved the situation by issuing technical service bulletins (TSB # 03256/NHTSA # 10008278 and TSB # 03164/NHTSA # 10003118) to remove and replace affected heads with versions featuring enhanced cooling streams.
    • Cobra special chairs with a combination of bolsters, alcantara inserts (suede-like microfiber), and larger headrests. 1999 Cobras has a regular GT Mustang seat.
    • Rear bumper that reads "COBRA" and not "MUSTANG" as in Cobra 1999.
    • The rear badges in the trunklid are changed to read "SVT" instead of "SVT COBRA" as in Cobra 1999.
    • New steering wheel and improved Mach audio system.
    • The wheels for Cobras 1999 and 2001 are 17 "x 8". Silver-powdercoated, five-spoke aluminum wheels were available in 1999 and 2001, and chrome wheels with the same design were the options available for Cobra 2001.
    • The Tremec T-45 transmission in 1999 was replaced by Tremec TR-3650 transmission in 2001.
    • The cap and differential problem was changed from 28 splines in 1999 to 31 splines in 2001.
    • Redesigned decklid rear spoiler.
    • The 1999 two-piece audio unit consisting of a radio with separate tape deck and CD player was upgraded to a larger, single-face, 6-disc unit in 2001.
    • The center console and trim are redesigned.
    • Buttons for fog lights, rear window defroster, and anti-skid system are moved to the panel under the new radio unit.
    • The emergency bracket comes with a leather boot to cover the pieces on the console.
    • The headlights are changed from a chrome background to a black background. Newer headlights are sometimes referred to as "smoking" or "color", but this refers only to a black background. The actual lens is clear for both years. This black light is actually first used in 2000 Cobra R and then across the Mustang lineup for the 2001 model.
    • The odometer digit color and instrument cluster light are slightly changed.

With the list of changes above, Cobra 2001 was able to take 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds and do a quarter of a mile in 13.8 seconds at 102 mph. The cars were electronically limited to a top speed of 150 mph.

    Cat and Interior Trim

Cobra 2001 is available in eight exterior paint colors, as shown in the table below. There are only two interior color choices: Dark Charcoal (interior environment is Dark Charcoal, and chairs have Dark Charcoal leather bushes with Alcantara Medium Graphite inserts) or Medium Parchment (interior environment is Medium Parchment, but chairs have Brown Chocolate bolsters with inserts alchantara Medium Parchment). In keeping with SVT's attention to detail, Cobra's emblem on the front beam is embroidered in a slightly darker color than the suede inserts to provide a smooth contrast. In the Cobra convertible, the top of the vinyl is available in black, parchment, or white, and the top of this convertible is the same used on the regular 2001 Mustang convertibles.

    2002

Although many fans believe there is no Cobra 2002, about 100 vehicles are partially built in the US and shipped to Australia for right drive conversion and final assembly by Ford Tickford Experience (FTE). The vehicle was based on Cobra SVT 2001-spec. Other changes include additional drive lights on the lower front of the fascia to meet Australian lighting specifications, and the steering wheel is moved to the right side of the car. It is part of A $ 4 million program by Ford Australia to combat rival Holden Monaro, which eventually formed the basis of the 2004-2006 Pontiac GTO reboot in the US.

    2003-2004: Cobra Terminator

    2003

Debuting in the spring of 2002, Cobra 2003 comes with a supercharged 32-valve DOHC engine, 4.6 liters, rated at 390 hp (291 kW) and torque of 390Ã,Âbb (530Ã,M). Code-named "Terminator" by the SVT development crew led by John Coletti, many improvements were made to the powertrain and driveline to handle the increased power from the set-up of the previous model. A cast iron block was used instead of the previous Textid aluminum unit, with a stronger internal including a forged Zolner piston and a modified Manley H-beam connecting rod with a wrist pin pin hole by SVT engineers. This increase is very important to support 8Ã, psi (0.55 bar bar) drive sent from stock Eaton M-112 root-type supercharger. Other improvements include the use of an aluminum flywheel connected to a six-speed Tremec T-56 transmission, a 3.55: 1 rear axle ratio, and a more robust 31-spline halfshafts with revised upper and lower control arm. This modification allows Cobra to go 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and do a quarter of a mile in 12.67 seconds at 110.11 mph. Although electronically arranged to a top speed of 153 mph, a Cobra Terminal-share plant can reach a top speed of just under 180 mph if the governor is removed.

Cobra 2003 boasts a visual and functional improvement designed by Camilo Pardo, Ford's supercar main designer 2005-2006. These exterior differences include a new front fascia with integrated spoiler and front brake air ducts, a new rear fascia with black inserts that visually blend the exhaust pipe, composite composite with dual functional air scoop, newly designed side spoons, and a folded side view. mirror painted with suitable body color. The side skirt is specially designed for the Cobra Cobra body kit, featuring a smooth body line from the door to the bottom of the car. As a visual departure from Cobra 1999, 2000 and 2001 (no Cobra model 2002), featuring Canang taillights with separate amber signals, Cobra 2003-2004 uses standard red Mustang red light with integrated turn signal. SVT also introduces the new 17 inch x 9 rim, available in standard-engined aluminum with an argent-coated or optional chrome metal enclosure. Finally, the Cobra Terminator uses a new decklid spoiler with integrated LED brake lights, compared to the wing spoiler seen on previous Cobras and Mustang V6 and GT standard models. It is optional to remove the spoiler, and the brake lights are then integrated into the decklid using conventional lamps.

    Cat and Interior Trim

At the end of model year, Cobra 2003 is offered in ten exterior paint colors, but at first, available in seven colors. Early 2003 Cobras built between May and September 2002 were produced in conjunction with Mustang V6 and GT models in 2002. Since Satin Silver and Mineral Gray were the colors of 2002, they were replaced with Silver Metallic and Dark Shadow Gray Metallic, respectively, at the start of production Mustang 2003 regular on September 29, 2002. Redfire Metallic replaces Torch Red simply because it is a new color for the 2003 model year; However, Torch Red will make a comeback at the end of the model year on the 10th Anniversary Edition (see next section). All Cobra 2003 has Dark Charcoal interior. The chairs are covered with Dark Charcoal Nudo bolsters and good suede inserts in Medium Graphite (light gray) or Medium Parchment (tan). Cobra Coat on the front of the embroider embroidered with colors that match the suede inserts; However, on the 10th Anniversary Edition, this same emblem is embroidered with a charcoal-colored charcoal yarn to contrast with a special red leather insert. In the Cobra convertible, the top of the canvas convertible is black or parchment depending on the color of the selected suede seat inserts, and on the 10th edition of the convertibles edition, the top of the convertible canvas is available only in black.

NOTE: In the table below, paint colors marked with an asterisk (*) are available at the beginning of regular 2003 Mustang production on September 29, 2002.

The Anniversary model is the first Cobra featuring a steering wheel with a mound handle at 10 and 2 o'clock positions. SVT generates 2,003 (the same number as the model year) of the Anniversary model unit at the end of model year during June and July 2003, a total of 1,003 coupes and 1,000 convertibles. The 10th Anniversary model is only available in three exterior colors: Black (775 models), Red Torch (734 models), and Silver Metallic (494 models). 2004

Cobra 2004 is the remainder of Cobra 2003 but with a few minor updates, including a slightly renewed disposal system and rumors of a 20 horsepower increase over the 2003 model. The addition of a newly integrated shift lamp eliminates the $ 1,000 guzzler gas tax charged to the 2003 model year. One of the most noteworthy new options in the entire Ford range is Sirius satellite radio available; the feature that distinguishes between the 2003 and 2004 factory sound systems is the "SAT" button on the 2004 system.

The 2004 Cobra was produced between November 2003 and March 2004. It was a short model year for Cobra Terminator 2004, as well as the entire 2004 Mustang lineup, for a number of reasons. The Mustang and Cobra 2004 are the last Mustang to be built at Ford Dearborn, Michigan, and Ford Motor Company who have made the decision to end Mustang production there instead of updating the plant for the 2005 model. Thus, the 2004 production is scheduled for completion in May 2004. Another reason is the hype over the all-new Mustang 2005, which means that Ford needs to start production as soon as possible in the newly updated Flat Rock Assembly in Flat Rock, Michigan, then known as AutoAlliance International.

    Cat and Interior Trim

Cobra 2004 is available in eight exterior paint colors, as shown in the table below. Zinc Yellow was replaced by Screaming Yellow across the Mustang lineup for 2004; However, Sonic Blue Metallic and Dark Shadow Gray Metallic are still available on regular Mustang 2004. The chairs are covered with Dark Charcoal Nudo bolsters and suede inserts either in Dark Charcoal or Medium Graphite. Sinks Medium Parchment suede is no longer offered. Cobra Coat on the front of the embroider embroidered in a medium-colored graphite thread apart from the color of the suede seat insertion; However, in Mystichrome Cobra (see next section), this same emblem is embroidered with charcoal-colored charcoal yarn to contrast with special Mystichrome skin inserts. In all 2004 Cobra convertibles, the top of the convertible canvas is available only in black, regardless of the color and material of the seat inserts.

    2004 Mystichrome Cobra

The 2004 limited edition Mystichrome Cobra debuted at the 2003 New York International Auto Show in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the Mustang GT and the 2004 V6 model. According to the SVT press release, Mystichrome Cobra was produced to help commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Mustang. SVT has recognized the importance of this milestone, and shortly after the success of Mystic Cobra 1996, SVT is working with Ford product planners and outside vendors to build the highest-specific Cobra edition. DuPont is assigned to work on color-redirection paint formulations that will be easier to use and match. The resulting Mystichrome catfish, sold to BASF which eventually supplies paint to Ford, contains ChromaFlair pigments that make a change from the bright green topaz to cobalt blue, then into the royal purple, and eventually into a deep black onyx. High amounts of aluminum metal flakes are added to give Mystichrome some luster. This paint is called "2004 Ford Mustang Cobra MystiChrome Metallic" and the price, at the time, was about $ 150 per pint. Because Mystichrome paints are still very expensive, any kind of exterior damage to the car is financially problematic. If the damaged Mystichrome Cobra requires repainting at a reputable Ford body dealer shop, Ford employees from Dearborn's headquarters are required to bring paint privately and supervise the use of special paint. The damaged car must be verified that it is a factory-made Mystichrome Cobra. After the workshop has finished using Mystichrome paint, all unused paint should be put back into the tin and sealed, and the Ford employee is watching back to Dearborn with the unused paint.

SVT works with Garden State Tanning to produce Mystichrome skins found on car seat inserts and steering wheels at positions 10, 2, and 6 hours. The production process for Mystichrome skin includes tanning and dying black leather jets, spraying Mystichrome paint directly onto the skin, and sealing it with clear coating to protect and prevent damage to Mystichrome's painted skin. Like the 10th Cobra HUT in 2003, Mystichrome Cobra features a steering wheel with a mound of grips at 10 and 2 o'clock positions. The Mystichrome Cobra comes standard with a 5-spoke 5 "spoke chrome wheels.

The Cobra Mystichrome was produced between December 2003 and January 2004. A total of 1,010 Mystichrome Cobras were produced, 515 coupes and 495 convertibles. The Mystichrome Appearance Package (the 68M order code), as officially called by Ford, is just an option $ 3,650.
