Bicycle frame
Mondia bike frames from the 1970s are said to rival modern frames in terms of weight and technique. The typical service weight, with premium quality components, is below 10.5 kilos (23 lbs.) Frame Mondia from the 1960s - 1980s is known for their "wild" multi color paint job. Mondia's bikes are easily recognizable by a special fade paint scheme that gradually blends the colors onto the front end of the chrome fork and remains. The headbadge has Mondia's "Super Mondia" stamped on a stylish sunburst set.
During the 1960s and 1970s, Mondia produced three premium frames: the criterium model, the tour model and the cyclo-cross model.
Mondia's " Special " front fork frame displays a front fork with pronounced arches and a slightly larger rake that is described as having a very comfortable ride, though some people describe it as unfavorable. The Special also features Chrome Nervex frame framework lugs. Blasted brake lid caps are installed along the lower right side of the top tube. Other equipment in Specialty is a brazed attachment to install front and rear shelves for cross-country touring equipment.
Mondia racing " Super " is somewhat firmer and stiff, and with a more upright front fork. Mondia Super frames using a less complicated chrome Prugnat lug with typical central cut-out. Brazed-on guides for braking cable on this model are centered along the top of the top tube.
Both frames are constructed from the Reynolds 531 steel pipe (in French metric size), typical of the high-end bikes during the manufacturing era. The front forks of the Mondia frames then feature a chrome-plated cast-up cast-up cast dynasty investing with Mondia stamped onto each side. The lower brackets are either Swiss-or French-threaded, while the headset displays French thread and the driver is boring. Although individual bikes are built with a variety of components, the most common premium group is Campagnolo "Nuovo Record" with "Mafac" brakesets.
Mondia produces at least two cyclo-cross frames and other less common criteria. One, known as "Criterium " was available in the early 1970s; the second model, designed for racing criterium and called " Criterium Prestige " was produced about two years in the late 1970s. The Prestige appears to combine the selected design and technical features of Mondia Super and Custom . The cyclo-cross model features trademark fade paint and cantilever center brakes mounted on studs welded on fixed and refracted Reynolds 531 frames.
