Bedrooms in Arles (French: La Chambre ÃÆ' Arles Dutch Language: Slaapkamer te Arles ) is the title given for each of the three similar paintings by the 19th century post-Impressionist Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh.

Van Gogh's own title for this composition is The Bedroom (French: La Chambre ÃÆ' coucher ). There are three authentic versions that are described in the letters, easily visible to each other by the image on the wall on the right.

The painting depicts Van Gogh's bedroom at 2, Place Lamartine in Arles, Bouches-du-RhÃÆ'Â'ne, France, known as the Yellow House. The door on the right opens to the upper floors and stairs; the door on the left is the guest room that he prepared for Gauguin; the window on the front wall looks out to Place Lamartine and its public gardens. This room is not rectangular but trapezoidal with a dull angle in the left corner of the front wall and a sharp angle on the right.

Versi pertama

Van Gogh started the first version during mid-October 1888 while living in Arles, and explained the purpose and means to his brother Theo:

"This time it only reproduces my bedroom, but the color has to be abundant in this section, the simplification adds a grandee rating to the style applied to the object, suggests a break or a specific dream.Well, I think that when watching the composition, we stop thinking and fantasizing I have painted a pale purple wall Ground with checked materials, wooden beds and chairs, yellow like fresh butter, bed sheets and pillows, lemon green, bedspreads, deep reds, windows, sink, orange, tank, blue, door, purple, and that's it.No nothing else in this room with the shutters closed, say rest without rest, also portraits on the walls, mirrors, bottles, and some costumes, not yet applied to the image, so the frame will be white, which aims to make me even with the mandatory break recommended for me have described no kind of shadows or shadows, I just apply simple plain color, like the one in crÃÆ'ªpes. "

Van Gogh included a sketch of the composition in this letter as well as in a letter to Gauguin, written a little later. In the letter, van Gogh explained that the painting came out of a disease that kept him bedridden for days. This version has wall to miniature right portrait van Gogh from his friends Eugène Boch and Paul-Eugene Milliet. The portrait of Eugène Boch is called The Poet and the portrait of Paul EugÃÆ'¨ne Milliet is called The Lover.

Second version

In April 1889, van Gogh sent an early version to his brother who regretted that it had been damaged by the flood of RhÃÆ'Â'ne when he was interned at the Old Hospital in Arles. Theo proposes to have it and sent back to him to copy it. This "repetition" on the original scale (the term Van Gogh is "rà © pais") was carried out in September 1889. Both paintings were then sent back to Theo.

Third version

In the summer of 1889, Van Gogh finally decided to repeat some of his "best" compositions in smaller sizes (the term he used was rà © ductions ) for his mother and sister Wil, Bedroom is between the subjects he/she selected. This rÃÆ' © ductions , completed by the end of September 1889, is not an exact copy.

In The Bedroom the miniature portrait on the left reminds self-portrait of Van Gogh Peasant of Zundert . The one on the right can not be associated convincingly with van Gogh's paintings.
