History
Sherwin-Williams Company (SHW), the largest US paint retailer, agreed in November 2012 to acquire Consorcio Comex SA de CV which is held tightly around $ 2.34 billion including debt to get the biggest paint maker in Mexico. The deal was rejected by Mexico's Comisià Federaln Federal de Competencia in November 2013 for anti-trust purposes, and as a result, PPG Industries has agreed to buy Comex for $ 2.3 billion. Sherwin-Williams can still buy Comex operations in the US and Canada for $ 165 million. After a failed bid in Mexico, and before a takeover by PPG, Comex sued Sherwin-Williams for not trying hard enough to seal the deal.
In July 2015, after a photo of President Enrique Pena Nieto showed his high deficit next to Felipe VI of Spain making international headlines, Comex released on his Twitter account photoshopped the president of Mexico standing in one of the paint pots with text une pintura de altura ( paint stature ). After the post gets retweet extensively, the company deletes it and makes an official apology, arguing that the photo has not been approved before it aired.
