A medium bulk container ( IBC ), tote IBC , or pallet tank , is a reusable industrial container designed for the transportation and storage of bulk liquids and granules, such as chemicals, foodstuffs, solvents, medicines, etc.

Description
Medium bulk containers are stackable containers mounted on pallets designed to be removed using forklifts or jack pallets. IBC has a volume range located between the drum and the tank, hence the term "medium". The most common sizes are 1040 liters or 275 gallons US or 229 gallons imperial and 1,250 liters or 330 gallons US or 275 gallons imperial (1040 liter IBC often listed as 1000 liters). The cube-shaped IBC provides excellent storage capacity utilization compared to the drum pallet - a 275 gallon IBC equivalent to five 55-US-gallon drums (208Ã, Â °, 46Ã, Â ° gÃ, gal), and IBC 330-gallon equivalent six 55 gallons of drum.
The most common IBC is a one-time use of IBC composite plastic - a white/translucent plastic container (usually polyethylene) placed in a tubular galvanized iron cage attached to the pallet. IBC can be made from many materials depending on the sender's requirements and legal requirements to be met. In addition to IBC composite plastics, medium bulk containers are also made of fiberboard, wood, heavy-duty plastic, aluminum, carbon steel, and galvanized iron. IBC large tallies made of reinforced plastic that does not require a steel cage; they have a palette formed at the bottom so that the whole unit is one part.
Folding IBCs are also made of thick plastic. Their sides fold inward when the empty unit allows IBC to collapse into a much smaller package for shipping or re-storage. Flexible medium bulk containers, made of woven polyethylene or polypropylene bags, are designed to store or transport dry, flowable products such as sand, fertilizer, and plastic granules. Almost all IBCs are rigidly designed so that they can be stacked vertically one above the other using forklifts. Most have a faucet (valve, faucet, or tap) mounted on the bottom of the container where the hose can be attached, or through which the contents can be poured into smaller containers.

IBC can be produced according to customer requirements in terms of capacity, dimensions, and materials. The length and width of the IBC usually depends on the standard dimensions of a country's palette.
Benefits
There are many advantages to the IBC concept:
- Being cubic shaped, they can carry more material in the same footprint than cylindrical containers, and far more than may be delivered in the same space compared to the packaging in the number of consumers.
- IBC Composites rely on plastic liners that can be charged and disposed of with various systems.
- Manufacturers/processors of a product can pack large quantities of product in one country and ship to many other countries at a low cost where the packet is then packed in the form of the final consumer in accordance with the country's regulations and in suitable form and language for the country.
Using
IBC can send and store:
- Bulk chemicals include hazardous or hazardous materials
- Commodities and raw materials used in industrial production
- Liquid, grained, and powdered food
- Food syrup, such as corn syrup or molasses
- Petrochemical products, such as solvents, detergents, or adhesives
- Rainwater when used for rainwater gathering on the roof
- The IBC used is the basic building blocks for many home aquaponics systems
Acquisition and disposal
Medium bulk containers can be bought or rented. The bar code and RFID tracking system are available with the associated software.
IBC can be purchased as a new unit (bottle and cage), rebottled units (new bottles and washed cages) or washable units (bottles and cages have been washed). Unwashed units are usually cheaper, with the most expensive new units, and units rebottled near the midpoint. In many cases, customers can purchase mixed ("mix") of this unit type at a single price, to simplify accounting.
The choice of customer unit depends primarily on the actual sensitivity or perception of their products against contamination, and the overall ability to clean up their specific product type from the bottle. Those with lower risk of contamination are the main candidates for the washed unit. With the exception of products manufactured in "clean rooms" (GMP - good manufacturing practices), new washed decisions are usually a matter of availability or appearance.
IBCs can be rented in closed loops (only using IBC used by certain customers and washed or switched off) or the most common open loop system (where the rebottled or wash unit is flexible). For plastic composite units, most travel rentals have been replaced by mixed purchases.
Security
When exposed to a fire, plastic IBCs containing flammable or flammable liquids can melt or burn quickly, release all contents and increase fire hazard by the addition of burning fuels abruptly.
For IBC metals, the German Bundesanstalt fÃÆ'¼r Materialforschung und -prÃÆ'¼fung (BAM) testing report shows that IBC metal can withstand fire for at least 30 minutes, if equipped with pressure ventilation device.
History
The IBC concept was patented in 1992 by the inventor Olivier JL D'Hollander who worked for Dow Corning SA. It was inspired by the patent of the "folding plastic wire frame containing plastic bottles", patented in 1990 by Dwight E. Nicols for Hoover Group, Inc.
