Ribbon art is a work of art made with adhesive tape such as masking tape or packing tape. It was developed from urban art in the 1960s, as an alternative to the widespread use of spray cans in the urban art scene. Tape can be used to produce "stained glass" effect when applied to glass or plastic that is turned on from behind. It can be affixed to the wall to form an outline or drawing, or it can be formed into a three-dimensional statue.

Ribbon artists such as Max Zorn show their work in art week including Art Basel Miami.

Characteristics

Ribbon art can be installed quickly and almost silently, making it suitable for small or temporary urban art projects. No masking or cover required. Tape is relatively easy to handle, and can be applied to various surfaces, such as stone, asphalt, wood, aluminum, sandwich panels or glass. The interior installation works just as well as the exterior. Unlike the art of spray paint, painting can be removed easily without leaving a permanent mark.

The material for the artwork varies depending on the tape used. Ribbon art can use masking tape, packing tape, masking tape, or other products. Unlike traditional paintings and sculptures, painting can be applied anywhere, including doors, ceilings and gallery floors. Lakban can be used to create three-dimensional statues.
