The Group Jotun is a Norwegian chemical company that mainly handles decorative paints and performance coatings (marine, protective and powder coatings). In February 2017, the company is present in more than 100 countries worldwide, with 9500 employees, 63 companies in 45 countries, and 37 production facilities in 21 countries.

Histori
Jotun started as a provider of paint and marine supply in Sandefjord, Norway in the early 1920s. Sandefjord is a popular residence for whaling vessels, which are used to be put in harbors every summer for repairs and maintenance. The founder of the company, Odd Gleditsch has worked on whaling vessels and feels there is a demand for such providers in this whaling town. During that time, the paint shop usually sells pigments, turpentine, and linseed oil separately, so buyers buy and mix them. Strangely stopped sailing and opened a shop in Sandefjord to sell paint and provisions, but immediately felt that there was a demand for readymade paints. He bought a small chemical manufacturing plant called Jotun in 1926. In the early 1930s, the company made the first popular ready paint called Arcanol which he marketed to ship owners and shipyards, a strategy that Jorun continued to implant in the 1920s -an and 30's. sees a boom in Norwegian voyages, especially in the drycargo and tanker fleets and Jotun will take advantage of this.
To ensure sufficient stocks in all major ports for Norwegian shipowners, Jotun began painting in North Africa, Europe and America. When the countries of the Middle East and Southeast Asia developed in the 1950s, Jotun began marketing its products to ship suppliers there. The son of Odd founder Gleditsch Jr. overseeing the company's expansion in the Middle East. Working with the Norwegian export council, he traveled to Libya where Jotun built his first overseas factory in 1962. In 1967, Jotun opened a second international factory in Thailand. which became the base for its operations in Southeast Asia.
In 1982, Jotun opened a trading office in Hong Kong. When China started to open, Jotun opened a joint venture in Shanghai with China's shipping giant COSCO to provide paint to its shipyard and ship. During this time, Jotun established a separate company called "Jotun coating" which focuses on paint making. In the 1970s, the company began to develop a powder coating that would be solvent-free.
